A renewable natural gas producer in Quebec was bringing a new injection point online and needed an odorization installation matched to the site’s flow profile, environmental conditions, and regulatory requirements. The injection point’s location, the producer’s site constraints, and the timeline pressure of an RNG project ramping toward commercial operation all argued for a modular building rather than field-built construction.
The producer needed an odorization installation that would be in place, commissioned, and operating in time for the broader RNG facility to begin commercial gas injection. Equipment selection, manufacturing, transport, installation, and commissioning all had to fit within the three-month window the project schedule allowed.
Approach
MRR delivered the project as an integrated modular installation. The odorization building was specified to match the site’s gas flow profile, configured with the storage capacity appropriate to the operator’s preferred service interval, and engineered to operate reliably through Quebec winters and the temperature swings of the surrounding agricultural environment.
The building was manufactured at the MRR plant under controlled conditions, with the odorant storage tank, injection equipment, monitoring system, secondary containment, and environmental controls all installed and tested as a complete system before shipment.
Manufacturing the building off-site rather than in the field reduced the on-site construction footprint and compressed the project schedule.
On arrival at the Quebec site, the building was set on its prepared foundation. MRR field crews completed the tie-ins to the producer’s upstream gas processing equipment and downstream pipeline, performed the leak testing and pressure testing, took the initial odorant delivery, and commissioned the system. Operator training was delivered during commissioning, covering routine operation, scheduled maintenance, and the response protocols for the equipment’s monitoring alarms.
The full project — design coordination, manufacturing, transport, placement, commissioning, and operator training — ran approximately three months from project kickoff to operational handover.
Outcome
The Quebec RNG injection point received a fully commissioned, factory-tested odorization building that integrated cleanly with the producer’s upstream and downstream equipment.
The producer transitioned to commercial gas injection on schedule, with odorant concentration verified against the operator's commissioning criteria from the first day of operation. The documentation package — design records, manufacturing records, commissioning report, operating manuals, and operator training records — gave the producer the foundation for the regulatory and operational records the asset will accumulate over its service life.
