Supporting Odorization and Odorant Handling in Refineries

Introduction

MRR works with refineries and midstream operators to safely manage odorant systems, ethyl mercaptan handling, and specialized odorization activities. From railcar stenching to flare outage support, engineered solutions and field services help operators protect people, product, and communities while minimizing operational impact.

Challenges

1

Odorant Logistics & Railcar Services

Refineries and midstream facilities receive, store, and ship odorized product every day. Every transfer, tank fill, and loaded railcar carries odor, exposure, and compliance risk.

How We Help

Odorant Delivery & Watchtower™

As a Chevron Phillips odorant distributor, MRR delivers and transfers odorants, including ethyl mercaptan, with the product fully contained from receipt to tank fill.

Railcar Stenching & Odor Removal

On-site stenching of LPG and NGL railcars before shipment, and complete odor removal for cars leaving for service, keeping loading racks moving while minimizing odor complaints.

Railcar Injection Optimization

Injection rate calculations and program reviews that match stenching levels to product volume and specification, verifying dosage and reducing odorant waste.

Odorant Spill Kits

Purpose-built response kits staged where mercaptan is handled, for safe and effective spill management.

2

Shutdowns, Outages & Emergency Response

When a flare is down, a unit is shut in, or odorant is on the ground, response time determines the operational and community impact. MRR mobilizes crews and equipment on your timeline, not a service window.

How We Help

Shutdown & Flare Outage Support

Portable flow generation and incineration keep gas moving and safely combusted when a flare is out of service or a unit is shut in, through repairs, turnarounds, and commissioning.

Emergency Odorant Spill Response

Rapid mobilization to contain, treat, and neutralize odorant spills, protecting personnel and operations.

DEOmer Odor Neutralizers

Fast odor suppression to minimize operational and community impacts.

MRR Services for Refineries & Midstream Operators

Compliance & Validation

From MAV™ analytical validation to risk assessments and audit-ready records, MRR gives operators a data-driven, defensible view of odorization performance, catching odor fade risks and compliance gaps before they become incidents.

Odorant Delivery & Transfer

As a Chevron Phillips odorant distributor, MRR delivers, transfers, and relocates odorant with the product fully contained at every step. Safety-first procedures minimize odor, protect personnel, and keep your operational sites clean.

Odor Control Products

MRR manufactures and sells the consumables that keep odorant contained and neutralized: EZ Carb™ activated carbon filters, mercaptan spill kits, and odor control liquids — DEOmer's all-season formula and Mask-O's orange formula.

Portable Flow Generation & Combustion

Portable flow generation supplies the flow a line needs when its own system cannot, supporting inline inspection runs, commissioning, and lines not yet in service. Crews mobilize for the campaign and run to your inspection schedule.

Preventative Maintenance

Our team inspects and services odorant injection equipment, performs system calibration to ensure accurate odorant dosing, and maintains critical odorization infrastructure to support reliable, long-term system performance in the field.

System Design & Installation

Fully engineered, PE-stamped odorization packages: designed, fabricated, and installed by MRR, from CSA and CRN certified bypass odorizers to complete stations. Optional orbital welding reduces field joints and potential leak points.

Watchtower™ Remote Monitoring

Running low on odorant is a quiet compliance risk. Watchtower™ monitors tank levels remotely, scheduling refills on actual consumption, with installed equipment your team monitors or a service MRR watches, and full performance data either way.
